Dave and Lizzie continued walking down the road for 5 days, and they would have probably have kept on going if they had any supplies left.

“Ok, we really have to stop at a town…or anywhere we can get some supplies from” said Lizzie

“I don’t think there are any towns around here Liz” replied Dave

“First of all don’t call me Liz, second of all there is a town 3km north-east of us.” exclaimed Lizzie

“Sorry about the Liz thing but, we can’t go to the town” expressed Dave

“Why?”Asked Lizzie

“Because, The Elnora River is south-east” explained Dave

“Yes, But the mountains are still east, it doesn’t matter if you go north-east then east or south-east then east” rebutted Lizzie

“I know that but we need to go to the city of Nemberigh in order to get mountain climbing equipment.”

“Your right…We have to split up” Said Lizzie

“What do you mean” demanded Dave

“Well, we have to get supplies, but we still need to hurry and get to the city of Nemberigh in order to get mountain climbing equipment.” Explained Lizzie

“Fine but I want you to meet me at Nemberigh in five days, sharp” ordered Dave

Lizzie left one hour later and headed for the town. Dave continued towards the Elnora River. Lizzie arrived at the town and quickly went to the bank where she took out money from her father’s account (luckily she sneaked up on him once when he was withdrawing money from the Bank of Kelloney and saw his pin and passwords, she also knew that he received bank statements every Sunday, today being Thursday she only had three days before he knew that someone was taking his money). Lizzie visited the general store to buy food and water, followed by the hiking store in order to get some proper tents. But, the most important highlight of them all was that she was able to buy a cart and a horse with the money from the bank.

“I’ll catch up to him in no time” Lizzie uttered to herself

Dave on the other hand had reached the river and started to think how to cross it. He finally decided that he would need to build a boat, for the river was far too large to swim through and definitely too deep to walk through.

The next day Lizzie was already caught up to Dave and to her disappointment Dave was not too excited to see her.

“How on earth are we going to get the cart and the horse over the river?” exclaimed Dave

“I imagined that there would be a bridge” replied Lizzie

“Well there isn’t “sighed Dave

“We will just have to build a bigger boat” continued Dave

“Well, we are going to need some wood so start…”

“What is it?” asked Lizzie

“We can use the cart as a boat; it can fit the horse, us and our supplies.” Cheered Dave as if he just won $100.

“Yes, but we will still need a rudder” Pointed out Lizzie

“We can use one of your pans” said Dave

Without another thought they pushed off into the river.

Tom however was not gathering wood he was not even angry on Dave anymore, he was lost. In fact he had he had ventured 2km from their campsite. The wind blew against his face but he wasn’t cold. He tripped and fell but wasn’t hurt. He was enchanted.

When he had left camp, he was so angry at Dave that he blindly stumbled in Meryew Forest, a forest that had an ancient curse on it. Tom knew about the forest from myths but never thought it was real. He was about to find out how real the forest actually was.

“Wake up “said Dave

“What is it” replied Lizzie

“Tom is not back yet!” Exclaimed Dave in horror

“What?” Said Lizzie barely awake”How come he didn’t come back yet?”

“I don’t know, but I do know we should go and look for him” answered Dave

“No way, I’m not going in the woods” protested Lizzie

“Why not? “Inquired Dave

“Don’t you remember, that is the Meryew Forest” snapped Lizzie

“That means we have to hurry” shouted Dave at the thought of the Meryew Forest

“Face it, Dave we can’t go. We have to go towards the mountains. That is what your dream said. That may have an answer for the curse of the Meryew Forest. If you think about it these are the only two places that no person has ever gone to.” Concluded Lizzie

“Fine, but from now on we are doing this for Tom”

With that they left.

“Come to me Tom come to your new master… The mountains Tom…Cross the mountains” said a girl’s voice. Tom became conscious once more. But he would never be the same. Now he had a mark on his shoulder. A mark that stained him for life.

Five hours ago a huge meteor hit Earth right in the money, physically. Las Vegas has been left devastated, in fact there is no Las Vegas anymore there is just a big hole. Pictures were hard to get because the KBG (In Russian: Комитет государственной безопасности) or the Russian secret service had locked down the area. Strange…the Russians in the USA, a meteor “unexpectedly” falls directly on Las Vegas, and no Law enforcement or military personal are anywhere to be seen What we think?…WAR.

The economic destruction that followed the impact may be permanent. Japanese Battleships have been spotted and so have some Japanese landing crafts. Both have been spotted on the Pacific coast of the USA. However, we have found one lucky person who barely escaped the impact of the meteor. Her name is Lily Magpie. ”It was very strange, last night I saw a big explosion in the sky.

The next day there was a small black dot in the sky. By lunch I was huge and a few hours later it blocked out the sun. After a few more hours it blocked out the sun. Just then I remembered that I forgot my pet rock at my grandmother’s house. I got into my car and drove out of Las Vegas. It was 30 minutes that I was on my way home but just as I reached the city limits I put on the brakes. There was no home just a big hole.” There is your civic opinion but what about the scientific one?

Scientist Robert Jones says that the “big explosion” was a distant super-nova that changed the meteors course towards earth.”

Meteor

It’s not my fault, were the four words that constantly repeated in the Nate family. In fact they were so repeated that someone had to do something about it before it got out of control! For example, this morning Eliza Nate was happily drawing in her room, when suddenly she heard her mother coming down stairs. Quick as a bunny she pretended to clean her room.

“Eliza, what have you been doing?” questioned Eliza’s mother

“Well…ahhh…uhhmm” mumbled Eliza

“Nothing, that’s what you’ve been doing, I bet that you only started cleaning when you heard me come down the stairs” said her mother

“Well, it’s not my fault that my room is not clean!”Exclaimed Eliza

“Then whose fault is it?” asked her mother impatiently

“It’s Lisa’s fault, she made the mess”

“Lisa? You mean your friend who came for a sleep over just a couple of days ago?”Inquired her mother

“Yeah, she helped me make the mess, so, she should help me clean it up” Eliza told her mother

“Well don’t you worry, I’ll make sure that Lisa never comes to our house again, then she can’t make a mess. But in the mean time you clean up for Lisa. I’m sure you won’t have any trouble keeping your room clean if Lisa’s not here” said her mother while she was walking out the door

“What have I done?” mumbled Eliza as she started to cry

Eliza spent the rest of the day in her room, mostly crying while she cleaned her room. After she had finished cleaning she started to think of a plan that would make mother change her mind about Lisa.

“Ok, I go upstairs and tell Mom that I’m done cleaning my room and it wasn’t Lisa’s fault that my room was unclean.” Eliza said to herself

And that was that, Eliza didn’t wait any longer she went straight upstairs and said:

“Mom I’m done cleaning my room, and it wasn’t Lisa’s fault that my room was unclean”

“That’s very good but will you clean your room by yourself every time it gets “unclean”?” asked her mother

“Yes, I promise” said Eliza

“Well in that case, Lisa can come and visit us again” announced her mother

From that day forth Eliza always cleaned her room when it was disorganized, and never again did she blame anything that was her fault on someone else.

Before long Tom and Lizzie were a little bit afraid, that Dave had really meant what said about going to the mountains. In fact they became so afraid that Tom finally reacted.

“Alright Dave, this hike has been very nice but, don’t you think that we should start going back now?” asked Tom

“Yeah, what he said” added Lizzie

“You guys didn’t actually think we were going there?” replied Dave in a very serious voice.

“Well I thought you were just in the mood for something new and…”

“So, you didn’t believe any thing did you, the dream, the mission, and most of all you didn’t believe me!” Interrupted Dave

Lizzie was zipping her mouth while the two boys argued, she did want to go home but, for some reason she also wanted to see what is on the other side of the mountains. However for now the biggest thing that surprised her was how different the two boys were acting now. Usually the one of them did everything the other told him and that other never wanted anything more then to pull a prank.

“Fine if you want to leave, leave tomorrow morning, but for now let’s set up camp” said Dave

“But how, we have never set up camp before?”Asked Lizzie

“Well, let’s see…Ok I think I know, Tom you can get some wood for the fire and Lizzie you can help me build a shelter of some sort.”

“Ok” replied Tom trying to be optimistic.

As Tom rushed into the nearby woods Dave and Lizzie started working on their shelter.

“I have an idea” said Lizzie

Tom was surprised that Lizzie could possibly think of some shelter they could build with a bow and some arrows, picnic blanket, 5 hiking sticks, and some paper.

“Well what is it?”Inquired Dave curiously

“We take the four small hiking sticks and fix them in the ground, then we attach the blanket over them and…”

Lizzie stopped.

“Never mind, we don’t have anything to hold the blanket to the hiking sticks” she said sadly

“What about an arrow?” suggested Dave.

“That’s a good idea” exclaimed Lizzie after she thought about it for a second

“Ok…there, all the corners of the blanket are fixed to a stick.” said Dave proudly

“Now we put the big hiking stick in the middle and… were done” shouted Lizzie

After they got comfy in their new shelter they waited for Tom.

“If you don’t mind, I’m going to sleep” said Lizzie

“That’s ok” replied Dave

But in an hour Dave started to feel sleepy, Tom didn’t come back yet, and Dave assumed that Tom was still gathering wood and would wake him up when he got back. So he too went to sleep.

“No, no calming down, I’m leaving tomorrow whether you are coming or not” replied Dave

“But you don’t even know where you’re going “insisted Tom

“Oh, I do, I know, I just need to see a map” said Dave

They quickly hiked down the hill and went to the library. When they arrived at the maps and geography section they found an atlas of the world. And there it was, from their town (Kelloney) to the undiscovered east. In between them and the east there were approximately five major cities and un-countable towns.

“There, we have to go over the Elnora River, through the city of Nemberigh, over the prairies, and over the mountains.” explained Dave

“Then what? “Asked Tom suspiciously

“I don’t know “said Dave “But I do know that we should stay out of the way of the mayor until we get back”

“I agree with you on that one” admitted Tom “And it would be pretty cool to find out what lies on the other side of those mountains.”

Good then we are settled, the day after tomorrow we will leave. But tonight we need to get a good night rest, and don’t forget this is a secret” said Dave

Later that night Tom had arranged a list of things that he needed to buy in order to accompany Dave on his little adventure. Tom thought that Dave had pretended to runaway so, he didn’t put too many clothing items on the list, still he did bring money because after all, you never know.

The next day was a busy one for both tom and Dave. Tom firs went to the bank to withdraw a handsome sum of money that he had been collecting,($100).Dave on the other hand, went to get some bow and arrows from a nearby hunting tavern.

Dave goes to the general store. Tom goes to the Farmers Market. Dave goes to the hiking store. Tom goes to the utility store. And so on and so forth. But in the end they ended up with three backpack loads of stuff, which after some debating with a local cart salesman ended up on their backs.

“And now for the hard stuff” sighed Dave

“Yes, how and when are we going to leave” said Tom

“Well it would be best to leave in the morning when everyone is asleep.” said Dave thoughtfully

“What time?”Asked Tom

“How’s four thirty for you” inquired Dave

“Sure, whatever, oh and where?” replied Tom

“Same hill I had the dream on” commanded Dave

“Ok, see you” exclaimed Tom

Tom woke up at four thirty sharp. How he did this I do not know but maybe it’s the anxiety of the moment or something, but anyway Tom got to the hill and waited for Dave who arrived minutes later.

“Come on, let’s go” Shouted Dave

“Here we go” said tom quietly as he caught up to Dave

“And where exactly would that be” said a familiar disgusting voice

“Let me handle this” whispered Dave to Tom “Oh Lizzie we are just going on a picnic.” Said Dave

“With bows and arrows” replied Lizzie

“Oh fine you got us again, we are going on a journey that could mean our death. And you’re not coming along” mumbled Dave although he regretted saying that “not coming along” part because now he feared Lizzie would tell her father. So he did the next best thing.

“Look Liz we are just going to try to hunt some deer” demanded Dave

“Oh no that won’t work this time, I’m coming along weather you like it or not” exclaimed Lizzie

And despite Dave’s best efforts Lizzie did come along. And amazingly they were able to cooperate more or less. But that would soon stop when they discovered what this journey was really going to be.
